WATERBURY - Edward Francis Murphy Sr., age 77, of Waterbury, passed away peacefully at Cheshire House Health Care Facility, on September 19, 2023. He was the beloved husband of Marie Veillette Murphy for 40 wonderful years.
Edward was born on August 18, 1946, in Waterbury CT, the son of the late Edward and Anne (Curtin) Murphy. He graduated from Croft High School, class of 1964, and then went on to St. Mary’s Hospital School of X-Ray. Ed joined the Naval Reserves during the Vietnam conflict and serviced as an X-ray tech at Florida Naval Hospital. He then returned to Saint Mary’s Hospital where he worked as an X-ray tech for several years. Ed earned an Associate’s Degree in business management from Post College and continued his X-ray career at Gaylord Rehabilitation Hospital in Wallingford, CT. When he wasn’t working, Ed spent his free time riding his Harley and loved cars and fishing, but family was the most important thing in his life. Ed was always happiest when spending time with his family. Ed will be greatly missed by all those you were blessed to know and love him.
Left to honor his legacy and cherish his memory, along with his wife, Marie, are his daughters, Allison Murphy Shea (Michael), Courtney Veillette (Christopher), his son, Edward R. Murphy, his grandson, Jeremy Murphy, his brothers, Patrick Murphy (Diana), Thomas Murphy (Rose-Marie), and his sister Eileen Tessier (Robert), along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends. Edward was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Anne, and his nephew, Paul Murphy.
Funeral services for Mr. Murphy will be held on Monday, September 25, 2023 when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception 74 West Main St Waterbury at 10:00 a.m. Those planning to attend are asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends may visit with the Murphy family on Sunday, September 24, 2023 from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at Casey’s Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Care 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd.
