“Beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Aunt”
WATERBURY - Jeannette Hamel, age 98, of Litchfield, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, after a brief illness. She was the widow of Raymond J Frageau Sr. and Leo J. Hamel.
Jeannette was born March 11, 1925, in Waterbury, CT the daughter of the late Emile and Lena (Hebert) Brodeur. She was a graduate of Waterbury Catholic High School and had a long career with the Connecticut Department of Labor retiring as a supervisor in the Waterbury office. After retirement, Jeannette spent many years in Florida. While there, she was able to follow her passion for horses. She and her husband Leo would breed and race thoroughbred horses on the LJH Farm in Ocala, Florida. Mrs. Hamel was always stylishly dressed and wore a hat.
Left to honor her legacy and cherish her memory are her son Raymond Frageau and his wife Patricia of Waterbury, her grandson Matthew Frageau and his wife Emma, and their three grandchildren Olivia, Conor, and Penelope. She also leaves her niece Barbara Hagen and her husband Carl and their children Christopher and Eric, nephew Bob McLaughlin and his wife Theresa. She is predeceased by her sister Francis McLaughlin.
Funeral services for Mrs. Hamel will be held privately and at the convenience of her family there are no calling hours.
