Joseph Wasilauskas

Joseph Charles Wasilauskas, age 98, passed away on February 24, 1919 at the Parkway Pavilion in Enfield, CT. He was born on April 4, 1920 in Waterbury, CT to Charles Kazimer Vasilauskas of Lithuania and Elena Valackeuyciute also of Lithuania. His father immigrated in 1910 on the S.S. Noordam.
Joseph married Ada Italia Petito on May 17, 1947, daughter of Joseph Petito from Lombardi, Italy and Pasqualina Federico. Joseph lived in Waterbury all of his life, except for his last year, when he lived in Enfield, CT to be near his cousin Anna's family. He was first cousin to Anna Mary Puchinsky Smith, who died in 2011.
Joseph attended schools in Waterbury, and served his country in WWII. He worked at the Bennet Watch Company and the Brass Mill in Waterbury for many years as a core maker, a bench worker, a lathe operator and a watchmaker. He was also a prize-winning photographer as well as a professional wedding photographer. In 1950, he won $1,500 first prize in an amateur snapshot contest. EXPOSITIONS OCT. 31, 1950 for a photo of him and his daughter, Shirley, as he is blowing smoke rings. He enjoyed making model boats and airplanes, drawing, calligraphy and watching baseball with his son, Alan. His books on early American aircraft were donated to the CT Air Museum in Windsor Locks.
Joseph is survived by his daughter, Shirley Wasilauskas of Minneapolis, Minnesota, a teacher. He was predeceased by his wife, Ada Petito Wasilauskas in 2012, his son Alan Wasilauskas, who died unexpectedly in 2018, at the age of 53, a half-brother, John Wasilauskas of Colorado, and a half-sister, Mary Urban, and his parents.
A Memorial service for Joseph and his son, Alan will be held on July 25 for his family.
