Retired Principal of several Waterbury Schools
WALLINGFORD - Mr. Michael J. Capozzi, 71, of Ashlar Village, Wallingford, formerly of Middlebury, entered into rest on Friday, August 26, 2022 in the comfort of his home in Wallingford. He was the beloved husband of Ronna (Fitzgerald) Capozzi.
He was born on January 26, 1951, in Waterbury, the son of Ann (Mile) Capozzi of Waterbury and the late Henry P. Capozzi Sr. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School and received his Bachelor’s and Masters’s Degrees in Education from Southern CT State University. He worked in the Waterbury Public School System as a teacher, vice principal and principal; retiring from Rotella Elementary School. Throughout his respected teaching career, Michael touched the lives of countless students and everyone he came in contact with. He was an active participant of the CEA, NEA, WTA and WRTA and a member of Phi Delta Kappa. Michael was best known for his sense of humor, generosity and incredible devotion to his family.
Left to cherish his memory and honor his legacy are his wife of 50 years, Ronna, his mother, Ann Capozzi of Waterbury, his sister, Joann Sichau Oldach and her husband Harry Oldach of West Hartford, his brother, Anthony Capozzi of Waterbury and several generations of nieces and nephews. Michael was predeceased by his father Henry P. Capozzi Sr and his brother Henry P. Capozzi Jr.
Funeral services for Michael will be held on Friday, September 2, 2022, when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Blessed Sacrament Church 182 Robbins St. in Waterbury at 10:00 a.m. All those planning to attend are asked to meet directly at the church. Inurnment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with the Capozzi family on Thursday, September 1, 2022, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Casey’s Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 1987 East Main Street at Southmayd Road, Waterbury.
