WATERBURY - Thomas James Muckle, age 85 of Waterbury, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at Vitas Innovative Hospice Unit of Saint Mary's Hospital on Monday, January 27, 2014 after a brief illness. He was the husband of Beatrice (Hammell) Muckle

Mr. Muckle was born in Waterbury on April 20, 1928, the son of the late Joseph and Agnes (Connelly) Muckle. A lifelong Waterbury resident, Tom graduated from Leavenworth High School before enlisting in the US Marine Corp where he proudly served his country, post WWII. After being honorably discharged, Thomas returned to Waterbury and following in his father footsteps, began working as a toolmaker at Scovill Manufacturing, retiring as the general foreman at Century Brass after many years of service. After retirement, Tom became the operations manager at Saint Leo the Great Church where he was an active member and parishioner of the church. He was a member of the Board of Trustees and spent many years volunteering at the church for various events and day to day activities. He was always willing to help out parishioners by providing them with transportation to Bingo nights, which he ran, as well as many other church related programs. He received an award from the Archdiocese of Hartford in recognition for everything he did for the parish. Tom also enjoyed camping and traveling throughout the country, especially taking trips to Disney World, but the two things he loved the most were his family and Saint Leo's

Besides his wife, Beatrice of 64 years, Tom is survived by his two daughters, Pam Nole and her husband Robert of Bethlehem and Robin McDonald of Wolcott. He also leaves his brothers, Robert Muckle and his wife Grace of Waterbury, Francis Muckle and his wife Felicia of Houston, TX as well as his grandchildren Ericka, Christopher, Kelly, and Robert, his great grandchildren, Thomas, Galvin, and Addison and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Thomas Muckle Jr., his son-in-law, Kevin McDonald, his brother, Joseph Muckle and his sister, Marion Sprano.

Funeral services for Mr. Muckle will be held on Friday, January 31, 2014 at 10:30am at Saint Leo the Great Church 14 Bentwood Ave, Waterbury, CT 06705 when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Those who plan on attending are asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will be private in Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury. Relatives and friends may visit with Tom's family on Thursday evening at Eastside Memorial, a Casey Family Funeral Home and Tribute Center, 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd. Waterbury from 4:00 to 7:00pm. Memorial donations in Tom's memory may be made to Saint Leo the Great Church.
