SEYMOUR - Alan E. Bucknam, age 28 of Seymour, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, December 13, 2014. He was the son of John Bucknam and Joanne Myl.
Alan was born October 5, 1986 in Philadelphia, PA, the son of Joanne Myl of Long Island City, NY and John Bucknam of Seymour. Alan grew up in Fishkill, NY and Dingmans Ferry, PA and graduated from Delaware Valley High School in Milford, PA. After graduation, Alan enlisted in the US Army, where he proudly served his country during Operation Iraqi Freedom with the 11B2P Infantryman as a Platoon Sargent and was a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne. During his two tours, he received many awards and decorations and was awarded a medallion from General Petraeus. After being honorably discharged he continued his education at the University of Connecticut where he earned his Bachelor's degree in business finance and has spent the last several years working as a financial advisor. Alan was passionate about health and fitness and enjoyed spending time outdoors. He enjoyed hiking, golfing, bicycling, and weight lifting and participated in various extreme obstacle challenges such as Tough Mudders. He also enjoyed sports and loved playing basketball and was a diehard New England Patriots fan. Alan was a kind compassionate person and always smiling.
Besides his parents, Alan is survived by his sisters Emily Bucknam of New York, NY and Elizabeth Bucknam of West New York, NJ, his uncle, Matt Bucknam (affectionately known as "Ungy") of Sunderland, MA, his mother's husband, David Myl of Long Island City, NY, his father's wife, Eva Bucknam of Seymour, his maternal grandparents Mary and William Krewson of Kissimmee, FL, his paternal grandfather, Doctor Frank Bucknam of New Haven, CT, his fiancée, Evelyn McCabe of Seymour, as well as several cousins, extended family and many friends.
Graveside Funeral Services with full Military Honors will be held on Friday, December 19, 2014 at 1:00pm in Calvary Cemetery, 2324 East Main St, Waterbury, CT. Those planning to attend are asked to meet directly at the cemetery. There are no calling hours. Eastside Memorial, "A CASEY FAMILY FUNERAL HOME AND TRIBUTE CENTER", 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd has been entrusted to assist the family with the arrangements.
