Waterbury - Mr. Alan Karabus of Waterbury, died unexpectedly on Friday, March 14, 2014 in New Haven CT.
Mr. Karabus was born to Isaac and Rebecca (Javen) Karabus on August 10, 1931 and raised in BeaufortWest a small town of the Great Karoo in Western Cape, South Africa, a place of which he maintained fond memories. Alan had a great capacity for enjoying life yet he lived simply but thought little of expense when buying books or good food or drink. His strength and clarity of thought, intellectual energy and unfailing curiosity saw him through many posts as Professor of International and United States Constitutional Law at Yale, Tulane, McGill and University of Bridgeport. For the last decade he was an invariable attendee the Chabad Lubavitch of Litchfield.
Among his survivors are his daughter, Rebecca V. Karabus of Waterbury, his brother, Cyril D. Karabus of Kenilworth, Western Cape, South Africa and his nephew, Matthew Karabus of Toronto Ontario Canada.
Funeral services for Mr. Karabus will be held on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at 3:30p.m. at Eastside Memorial, "A CASEY FAMILY FUNERAL HOME AND TRIBUTE CENTER", 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd Waterbury with the Rabbi Joseph Eisenbach, officiating. Burial will follow in Hebrew Benefit Cemetery, Waterbury. Memorial donations in Mr. Karabus' memory may be made to Chabad Lubavitch of Litchfield at Chabad, POB 127, Litchfield, CT 06759-0127.
