WATERBURY - Albano Violante " Bano" Dias, age 93 of Waterbury, passed away on Friday, May 8, 202 at St. Marys Hospital after a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of Ana Rosa Ferreira Barbosa Dias for 69 wonderful years.
Mr. Dias was born on January 21, 1927 in Rio de Janeiro Brazil the oldest son of the late Joaquim Violante and Maria Jose Dias and raised in Portugal alongside his six siblings. In his early years, Albano worked at Smide Tuberculosis Hospital and Conde de Ferreira Psychiatric Hospital, and was also handy as a shoemaker in Portugal, where he met his spouse, making by hand and gifting her first pair of shoes. Later in life, he enjoyed raising his grandchildren both in Portugal and in Connecticut, and even cared for three great grandchildren. His liveliness and patience with children will always be remembered. Bano emigrated to the United State in 1965 and went to work for the Waterbury Buckle and Tag as a Toolsetter for many years. Following his retirement he worked as City Crossing Guard at Hopeville School. Bano was an avid soccer fan and always rooted for his home city's team FC Porto, Futebol Clube de Porto He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church.



He leaves behind his loving wife of 69 years, Ana Rosa (Barbosa), his two children; Carlos Dias; his son, Maria Jose Dias; his daughter; granddaughters; Diane Magalhaes, Nancy Pinto, Patricia Dias and grandson, Joao Dias, as well as their respective spouses and partners. Bano, was fortunate and blessed to meet and love his four great-grandchildren; Nicole, Samuel, Rachael and Isabella Alice. He also leaves behind his sisters, Teresa Araújo (Portugal), Judite Dias (Portugal) brother, Manuel Dias (California), He is predeceased by siblings; Maria Luisa Nogueira (Waterbury) and Ana Correira Araújo and Mateus Dias, both of Portugal.
Due to the current governmental restrictions concerning COVID 19, funeral services for Mr Dias will be limited to a graveside interment on Monday, May 11, 2020 at 12 noon at All Saints Cemetery, Springbrook Rd Waterbury CT Those planning to attend are asked to gather at the cemetery where the committal service will be webcast to those in attendance at https://www.facebook.com/EastsideMemorial . Following the service those in attendance may pass by the gravesite and acknowledge Bano's family.
