Alexander J Graboski

August 29, 1913 — January 7, 2017

NAUGATUCK - Alexander J. Graboski (Poppy) passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 7, 2017, at Beacon Brook Healthcare Center in Naugatuck, CT. He was 103 years old.

Al is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Elizabeth & Raymond Blanchard Sr. of Orange City FL. His grandchildren Kimberly Etheridge of Columbia, MD, Raymond Blanchard Jr. of Oakville, CT, Alfred Graboski Jr. of Oakville, CT, Diana Kazlauskas of Terryville, CT, and Samuel Campbell of Oakville, CT. His great-grandchildren Heather Cash of Orange City, FL, Burt Orten Jr. of Terryville, CT, Raymond Blanchard III of New York, NY, Anthony Blanchard Specialist U.S. Army National Guard serving in Djibouti Africa, and Sara Blanchard of Thomaston, CT. His great-great-grandchildren Brandon Cash of Orange City, FL, Ethan and Hailey Peck of Thomaston, CT, and several nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his parents Peter & Hendryka Grabowski, his wife Henrietta Graboski, his son Alfred Graboski Sr., his brothers Joseph & Edward Grabowski, and his sister Helen Buckingham.

Al was a lifelong resident of Oakville, CT and retired from Scovill Manufacturing in 1978. During his career, he also owned Al's Grocery Store and worked as a self-employed home builder in Oakville, CT. After his retirement, Al worked part-time for Siemon Company and Taft School in Watertown, CT until the age of 81.

Poppy loved telling family & friends stories about his childhood, his life, his land acquisitions, and the changes in the world and technology he experienced during his lifetime. His pleasures were driving his car, breakfast outings with friends, sitting in his yard, woodworking, folk art, occasionally dancing the polka and playing a little song on his harmonica.

At Al's request, there will be no visiting hours or memorial services. Graveside services will be at the discretion of the family.
