Watertown - Alyce R. Griffith age 89 of Watertown, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by the love and comfort of her family after an extended illness on Thursday August 25th 2016. She was the widow of Dr. John G. Griffith II.
Alyce was born June 9th 1927 in Waterbury, CT, the daughter of the late John and Zophia (Pernal) Rock. She was a graduate of Watertown High School and attended the University of Bridgeport and Fones School of Dental Hygiene. Alyce spent many years working as a Dental Hygienist for Dr. Leo Finkelstein in Waterbury in addition to Southbury Training School and West Point Academy in NY. She was a member of the Waterbury Choral Society and was an avid sports enthusiast, she especially liked basketball and baseball. She was a member of the Watertown High School Reunion Committee, the Past President & Vice President of the Waterbury Dental Hygiene Association and member of the American Dental Hygienist Association as well as a member of the Episcopal Church Women's Alter Guild.
Among her survivors are her sons, Donald Payne of Houston, Texas, and John G. Griffith of Mount Vernon New Hampshire, her daughters, Barbara (Payne) Cappellina of Waterbury, and Connie Griffith of Gilbert, Arizona in addition to her four grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service for Mrs. Griffith will be held on Friday, September 2nd at 9:00 a.m. at New Hope Anglican Church 167 Buckingham St, Oakville, CT 06779. Those planning to attend are asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Friends and relatives of Alyce may visit with her family at the O'Neill Funeral Home 742 Main St Oakville on Thursday evening from 5:00 ~ 7:00pm.
