AT THE O'NEILL FUNERAL HOME - Amelia (Peresada) Iorio of Waterbury died Sunday July 5, 2009 in the arms of her daughter Jan at Waterbury Hospital after a brief illness. She was the widow of John F. Iorio.
Amelia was born in Waterbury , a daughter of the late Wasily and Ann (LaBoda) Peresada and lived in Watertown for several years. After graduating Watertown High School ., Amelia worked as a timekeeper at the Oakville Pin Shop . Throughout her life Amelia resided in Waterbury, St. Louis, MO, and Hartsdale, NY where she worked as a bookkeeper for a local music studio. After her retirement, Amelia and her husband moved to Yarmouthport, Mass where they joined a community of Cape Cod artisans. Together they crafted wooden toys and nutcrackers. Their handmade nutcrackers were featured on public television and also appeared on the premier cover issue of THE REVIEW, Cape Cod's Arts and Antiques magazine. After the passing of her husband in 1994, she returned to Waterbury where she made her home with her daughter Jan. Amelia was a member of Saint John's Episcopal Church in Waterbury and continued to share her passion of crafting for the church bazaars.
Besides her daughter Jan of Waterbury with whom she made her home she leaves a son Paul Iorio of Halifax, Mass., two brothers Alex Peresada of Mountain City , TN. , Harry Peresada of Thomaston, a sister Nina Hallock of Cheshire and two grandchildren Mary and Camille Iorio both of Halifax, Mass.
Services are private and there are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to Connecticut Community Care Independent Living Fund which provides in home services for seniors and their caregivers, ultimately making it possible for seniors to remain living independently with their caregivers.
