It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Anita Ellin (Oppenheimer), of Thomaston, CT, formerly of Middlebury, and Enfield on Sunday, April 21st, 2024.
She leaves many loved ones including her caring daughter, Lisa Ellin, of Ithaca, NY, her devoted son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Tammie Ellin (Cohen), and her adoring son Randy Ellin, of East Hampton, CT, her grandchildren, Joshua Ellin, Alana Ellin, and Jay Hirsh, Dakota, her cuddly cat, and her sister-in-law Adrienne “Dee Dee” Oppenheimer (Aston), along with her many nieces and nephews.
Anita was predeceased by her loving parents, Sarah (Persky) and Solomon Oppenheimer, her beautiful sister, Sandra (Oppenheimer) and husband Fred Goodman, her charismatic brother Morton Oppenheimer, and her former husband, Isidore “Izzy” Ellin.
Anita was a completely dedicated mother who selflessly raised and cared for her children and grandchildren. She relished in the simple comfort of being with family and enjoyed traveling to the Caribbean with her daughter. She was a magnificent cook and baker and found great delight in making her famous pistachio cake for her son Gary’s birthdays and gelatin molds for the holidays. Her daughter-in-law, Tammie, remembers with fondness the many times she and mom would sit and talk about life and have lunch together. Anita loved and was thoroughly entertained by her cats. Her kind hearted and upbeat demeanor along with a terrific sense of humor were some of her most delightful qualities. Anita’s keen sense of style and love of colorful decor brought a sense of cheerfulness and energy.
Anita’s bright spirit will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her. She was genuine and greeted everyone with a warm smile and kind words. Through many of life’s challenges and even chronic pain, she persevered. Anita was loved deeply by her children and was surrounded by loved ones in her final moments.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, April 25th, 2024, at 2:00 PM at New Hazardville Cemetery, Elm Street, Enfield, CT, where she will be laid to rest beside her parents and siblings. At 5:00 PM following the funeral service, all are welcome to a celebration of Anita’s life at 2 Ellen Ln, Thomaston CT; a Shiva service will be held in the evening. For those inquiring, in lieu of flowers, we suggest a charity that would be near and dear to Anita’s heart, as she was a lover of animals throughout her life. Please feel free to make a donation to the Humane Society.
