WATERBURY, CT-Ann M. Lowe, age 96 of Plantsville formerly of Cheshire, passed away peacefully Sunday, January 28th 2018 at LiveWell, formerly known as the Alzheimer's Resource Center of Plantsville after an extended illness. She was the widow of Burdon "Don" G. Lowe.
Ann was born February 2, 1921 in Waterbury, the daughter of the late Domiano and Constance (Jannetty) DelGrosso. She was a graduate of Duggan Elementary School and attended Wilby High School. Ann was a talented singer who played the piano and organ and at the age of just 13, had her own radio show on WATR radio in Waterbury. She continued singing throughout her life, sharing her talents with the world through local singing engagements with many local jazz bands. Ann was a seasoned cook, a gifted seamstress and an expressive artist. She regularly made her own clothes for her family and batiked her own fabrics for handcrafted, artisan gifts which were usually sold at local craft fairs.
Ann's seamstress skills birthed a successful little bowtie business of 54 years called Lowe Bow Originals. Ann and her husband produced distinctive and original men's bowties which were sold all over the world. The business was even a feature story in the Wall Street Journal. Lowe Bow Originals is happily carried on today by Ann's granddaughter and her husband Kellie and Rob Dunne.
Prior to moving to LiveWell, Ann resided at the Orchards Assisted Living Community in Southington for six years where she made some unforgettable friendships. She was a member of the "Choraleers" which was their local singing group and enjoyed performing with them several times a year. At LiveWell where she had resided for the past 6 years, she continued her passion for singing joining their choir and filling the lives of the residents and staff with beautiful songs. Ann was an encourager at heart with a deep care and concern for others and was always willing to help those around her either by sharing a simple smile, a song or an uplifting word of advice. She was deeply cherished and loved by the staff and residents at both facilities. They have often said "she was a joy to care for" her zest for life and joyful spirit was infectious and a great inspiration to all around her. Ann's family will be forever grateful to the LiveWell Staff for the constant, loving care they showed Ann.
Ann was a strong woman of faith and a devout Catholic. She enjoyed being a longtime member of St Bridget of Sweden Church in Cheshire. A dedicated mother, wife, grandmother and friend, Ann will be greatly missed by all the many that have been blessed to know her.
Among her survivors are her daughter, Nancy Finkenzeller and her husband, Bill of Waterbury, her two grandchildren; Kristen Finkenzeller of Waterbury and Kellie Dunne and her husband, Rob of Plantsville and her daughter-in-law, Marie Bianco Lowe. In addition she leaves several nieces, nephews and cousins . She was predeceased by her son, Martin D. Lowe, her brothers; Joseph and John DelGrosso and her sister, Angela Ricci.
Funeral services for Mrs. Lowe will be held on Saturday, February 3rd 2018 when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Bridget of Sweden Church, 175 Main St Cheshire at 11:30a.m. Burial will follow in Saint Bridget's Cemetery, Cheshire. Relatives and friends may visit with Ann's family at Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home 1987 East Main St at Southmayd Rd.
