Anselmo “Nuno” Lopez, age 68, of Waterbury, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2022, at Saint Mary’s Hospital, Waterbury, CT.
Anselmo was born on August 26, 1954, in Bronx, New York, the son of Anselmo Lopez, Sr., and the Late Elisa Gonzalez Lopez. Anselmo grew up in Brooklyn, New York, where he attended Thomas Jefferson High School. While in New York, at the age of 14, he met the love of his life, Louise Squire. He and Louise were young but always remained friends and in 1976, they rekindled their love and were married on July 26, 1984, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. They have known each other for 42 years and were married for 38 of those years.
Anselmo started working in the Garment District, lower Manhattan, and later relocated to Waterbury, CT, where he worked for Fiorillo as a truck driver. His love for driving continued after his retirement and he loved to take his family on long trips, his family had to listen to James Brown and Kool and the Gang music for the whole trip. Anselmo had a heart of gold and loved people, absolutely no one was a stranger. He loved his family and was very proud of his daughter and grandchildren and he talked about them for hours. Anselmo loved playing Xbox games such as bowling, racing, and loved sports, especially basketball, and attended several basketball camps as a youth where he met several professional basketball players. He was an avid shopper and would come home and cook delicious meals for his family.
Anselmo “Nuno” Lopez was a devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather, and he will be missed by his family and all who knew him.
Besides his wife, Louise, he leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter, Erica Lopez of Waterbury, CT, his grandchildren, Kiarah Schofield and Lemar Johnson, Waterbury, CT, his father, Anselmo Lopez, Sr., Bronx, New York, his brother, Nelson Lopez, Euless, Texas, his sister, Alice Acers, Homestead, Florida, four sisters-in- law, Margaret Squire, Brooklyn, N.Y., Catherine Squire, Brooklyn, N.Y. and Bette (Willie) Rudd, Battleboro, North Carolina and Mary Charles, Darlington, South Carolina. Two brothers-in-law, Jimmy Squire, Brooklyn, N.Y. and Thomas Squire, Darlington, South Carolina.
Funeral Services for Mr. Lopez will take place on Friday, October 28, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the Christ Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, 32 Maple Street, Waterbury, CT.
