US Army Veteran – Korea
WATERBURY – Anthony P. Mazurkivich, age 92, of Waterbury, CT, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2023, after a short illness. He was the loving husband of Ann (Brennan) Mazurkivich for 57 years until her passing in March 2020.
Anthony was born in Duryea, PA, on November 9, 1930, the son of the late Anthony and Mary (Gowlis) Mazurkivich. He graduated from Leavenworth High School and completed coursework at Waterbury State Technical College. Anthony served his country honorably in the U.S. Army from 1952 – 1954, having spent sixteen months of that time in Korea. Mr. Mazurkivich had a long and successful career at Scovill Manufacturing Company. He launched his 45+ year tenure with Scovill, having graduated from their Apprentice Design Program and working as a machine draftsman. He was later promoted to Machine & Tool Designer with their Apparel Fastener Division, where he performed various machine and tool design work. Following his retirement, he worked another 5 years as a private consultant to Scovill Manufacturing. Anthony was a member of the Cha Rum Bo Dance Club, where he and his wife enjoyed many evenings of ballroom dancing and other social events. He belonged to the Prospect Senior Center and appreciated many of their activities, including line dancing, luncheons, and trips. A sports fan, he enjoyed keeping up with his favorite teams and was a long-time, avid New York Yankees and UConn Women’s Basketball fan. Trivia held his interest, as did crossword puzzles, both of which helped make him a pro watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortunate each night. He was a devoted husband and a terrific father whose optimism and strong sense of faith will be sorely missed. Dad, thank you for every prayer you said for us, for the many sacrifices you made for us, and for the terrific example of faith, hope and unending love you instilled in us.
Left to honor his legacy and cherish his memory are his son, Robert Mazurkivich and his wife, Ning, of East Hartford, his daughter, Carol, with whom he made his home, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his brothers; John and Arthur Mazurkivich and his sister, Dorothy Gillespie.
