AT THE O'NEILL FUNERAL HOME: Anthony Edward Zappone, age 83, of 652 Main St. Oakville, died Friday at Middlebury Convalescent Home after an extended illness. He was the husband of Roberta Leslie (Davis) Zappone.
Mr. Zappone was born in Waterbury on January 31, 1925, the son of the late James R. and Mary C (Ciarlone) Zappone. He was a lifelong resident of Oakville, attended local schools and was Veteran of the US Army, having proudly served his country during World War II. He was the co-founder of Zappone Bros., a well known and successful local construction company. He served as owner and general contractor for many years and also expanded the family business into the Auto Body business. He was active in local politics during the 1960's and was a member of the American Legion Post 195 in Watertown. Anthony was a founding member of the Watertown Auxiliary Police has been a lifetime parishioner of St. Mary Magdalen Church in Oakville.
Besides his loving wife of 67 years, Anthony is survived by his son, Robert A. Zappone of Oakville, two daughters, Debra J. Zappone and her husband Rene G. Martineau of Watertown and Marylou Berry also of Watertown, two brothers, James R and Richard A. Zappone both of Watertown. He also leaves a grandson, Raymond B. Berry and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother George Zappone.
Funeral services for Mr. Zappone will be held on Tuesday, June 17, 2008 at 8:00am from the O'Neill Funeral Home, 742 Main Street Oakville to Saint Mary Magdalen Church for Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00am. Burial with military honors will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Watertown. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. Memorial donations in Mr. Zappone's memory may be made to the St. Mary Magdalen, School Building Fund, 140 Buckingham St. Oakville CT 06779.
