WATERBURY – Arthur Lee Wright, age 64, of Waterbury passed away unexpectedly due to injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident on November 19, 2022.
Arthur was born on December 10, 1958, in Tennille, GA, the son of the late Forrest and Mildred (Smith) Wright Jr. He relocated to Waterbury, CT at an early age with his mother and four sisters and was educated in Waterbury public schools. Arthur Lee was featured in the Waterbury Republican when he first arrived in Waterbury, as the first shoe-shine boy in the city. Arthur was an artist and once drew numerous murals around the city. In addition to being an artist, Arthur loved to ice skate and was a genius on roller skates. Lastly, he formed a singing group with a few school friends from Walsh Elementary school where they performed in school concerts. Arthur held various positions throughout the city with the most recent working for the City of Waterbury in the Parks & Recreation Dept. until his health started to fail.
Arthur was pre-deceased by his father, Forrest Wright Jr., his mother, Mildred Smith-Wright, his son, Zamel Smalls Wright-Boone and youngest sister, Felicia Wright-Beckford.
Left to honor his memory and cherish his legacy are his daughter Shaquell Johnson of Montgomery, AL, three sisters; Gloria Ann Gatling of Sandersville, GA, Betty Ann Wright and Lavonne Wright, both of Bristol, PA, one younger brother, Antrell Grimes of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, six grandchildren; Zamaya, Zamel Jr. Zaraya & Zanieva Boone, of Waterbury, CT, Ja’Marcus Johnson and JaMonte Johnson of Montgomery, AL, his brother, Anthony Houston, and two special friends, Bill Anderson and Josephine Ladson-Galvin, and his father’s only sister, a loving and supportive aunt, Marie Johnson, of Vero Beach, FL.
