Banush Lami

August 14, 1932 — October 18, 2014

PROSPECT - Banush Lami, age 82, of Prospect, passed away peacefully Saturday October 18, 2014 at Vitas Innovative Care Unit at Saint Mary's surrounded by the love and comfort of his family after a brief illness. He was the husband of Connie (Ferreira) Lami.

Banush was born August 14, 1932 in Bitincke, Albania, the son of the late Ismail and Zenepe ( Shehu ) Lami. Born under a Monarch type government rule. Albania was overtaken by communism in 1944, and he fought against communism and was detained by the communist government against his will. In 1958, he fled his native country and his detainees to neighboring Greece. He was able to contact family in the United States to which he immigrated to in December 1958. In 1960, Banush met his future wife Connie while taking English classes.

Banush was employed in the construction industry and worked many years at Northeast Utilities and Mattatuck Manufacturing and also worked as a small local home builder. He loved vacationing with his wife, and he was able to return to Albania in 1991 when the government embraced democracy. He helped many family members by welcoming them to his home while they would establish their lives in America. He also authored a book of his life and received the distinguished honor of being Waterbury "honorary mayor for a day".

In addition to his loving wife Connie of fifty four years, Banush is survived by his daughter Fatime (Tina) Harris and her husband Michael of Prospect, his son Nexhmi (Jim) Lami and his wife Laura Lami of Cheshire, his daughter Emine (Mimi) Jazxhi and her husband Gezim (Jim) Jazxhi of Prospect. He also leaves behind his brother Qemal and his wife Lucy Lami of Wolcott, his six grandchildren, grandson William Lami and his fiancé Nicole Smith of Southington, granddaughters Jennifer and Staci Harris of Prospect, granddaughter Lauren Lami of Middletown, granddaughter Katelyn Jazxhi Sparks and her husband Andrew Sparks of Waterbury and granddaughter Robin Jazxhi of Prospect. His nephew Agim and his wife Bona Hyssolli and their daughter Maria of Wolcott, and his beloved cousin Nevrus and his wife Bessie Ajce of Shoken, New York. As well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother Osman and two sisters Emene, & Hasine of Albania.

The family would like to thank and express their appreciation to the caring nurses & staff at Vitas Hospice and Innovative Care for the wonderful care they provided to Banush and his family while in their care.

Funeral Services for Mr. Lami will be held on Tuesday October 21st 2014 at 11:00am at Eastside Memorial "A Casey Family Funeral Home & Tribute Center" 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd. Waterbury followed by burial in New Pine Grove Cemetery Waterbury. Friends and Relatives may visit with Banush's family on Monday evening from 5;00pm ~ 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
