WATERBURY ?" Barbara Shirley Omicioli age 71 of 160 Bamford Ave. died Thursday January 8, 2009 at her home after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Barbara was born December 28, 1937 in Waterbury, a daughter of the late Albert and Augustine (Paoletti) Omicioli and lived in Waterbury most of her life. She was a graduate of Wilby High School and Waterbury Hospital School of Nursing. Prior to her retirement in 2006, she was employed as a registered nurse at Waterbury Hospital. Barbara's family would like to thank Dr. Joseph Bowen M.D. and the staff of Harold Leever Regional Cancer Center for their loving care and support during Barbara's battle with cancer.
She leaves two brothers Joseph Omicioli of Waterbury, Gene Omicioli of Huntington Beach, CA., two sisters Palma Strazzeri of Waterbury, Mary Grinsunas of Oakville, she was affectionately known as "Aunt Barbara" by two nieces; Joan Wright and her husband Vernon of Waterbury, Margaret Owens and her husband Phil of Bethlehem, and two nephews William Strazzeri and his wife Vicky of Northfield, and Steven Omicioli of Costa Mesa, CA. She also leaves many great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.
Funeral Wednesday at 9 a.m. from the O'Neill Funeral Home, 742 Main Street Oakville to Our Lady of Loreto Church for a Mass of Christian burial at 10. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Watertown. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Harold Leever Regional Cancer Center, 1075 Chase Parkway, Waterbury CT 06708.
