WATERBURY - Barbara A. Shappy, age 77 of Waterbury, passed away on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at St. Mary's Hospital after long illness.
Mrs. Shappy was born on March 22, 1943 in Waterbury CT, the daughter of the late Frank & Anne (Coretto) Zaccagnini. She attended Waterbury Schools. She worked for many years at General DataComm in Naugatuck and later she worked as companion/homemaker. Barbara loved to crochet, knit and quilt. She made baby blankets and hats and afghans and donated them to area organizations. She loved children and spending time with her family. Barbara was a lifelong resident of Waterbury and was member of St. Leo the Great Church parish. She will be sadly missed by all who were blessed to know and love her.
Left to cherish her love and memories, are her children; Steven Shappy and his partner Frances Lepore of Watertown, Scott Shappy and his wife, Lisa of Waterbury and Elizabeth Ivers of Waterbury. Barbara was blessed with 3 grandchildren, Breanna, Katelyn and Cristian. In addition, Barbara leaves her sisters Rose Urban of Florida and Mary Elizabeth Janus and her husband, John of Thomaston. She leaves behind her cherished memories of her nephews, John and Eric Janus as well as several other nieces and nephews. We would be remised not to mention her loyal companion, Casey, her 4 year old Papillon. He was with her through her toughest times and provided her much comfort.
Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Shappy will be held on Tuesday, January 5, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Calvary Cemetery, 2324 East Main Street Waterbury. All those planning to attend are asked to meet directly at the cemetery.
