"Dedicated to her family and her faith"

WATERBURY- Bernarda Vega Cantillo, 93, a devoted and loving mother, entered the gates of heaven, peacefully at home on Good Friday, April 10, 2020, surrounded by her loving family after a brief illness.

Bernanda was born on September 24, 1926 in the picturesque village of Usiacuri, Colombia, daughter of late Jose Maria Cantillo and Maria Conchita Cervantes. She was the widow of Orajes Manuel Vega. Bernarda "Tata or Ama", a caretaker and friend to many, was incredibly giving and selfless. Her entire life was dedicated to taking care of her family. She was an avid dancer and the life of the party. She had a passion for gardening and playing games "loteria" with her family. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grand-children and great grandchildren. She was a very faithful and spiritual person. She believed in the good of people and she knew how to make you feel at ease with her thoughtful and compassionate words.

Left to cherish to her memory are her thirteen children, Alvaro E. Vega, Maria I. Moreno, Miriam I. Nieves, Orajes M. Vega, Nancy E. Echeverria, Maria C. Velez, Jairo J. Vega, Jose M. Vega, Nora P. Vega, Rafael F. Vega, Margarita R. Alegre, Ricardo A. Vega and Jorge R. Vega. She also leaves behind her brother Ambrosio Cantillo; son in laws and daughter in laws; bestie Nirza Vega; 25 grandchildren,19 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephew; and was beloved by the many people whose hearts she touched over the years.

Due to the government's orders now in effect, there will be no public services for Bernarda. The family will conduct private services.
