Mother of Eight - Second Mom to Many
WATERBURY - Bernice Bergin age 98, of Waterbury, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at the Masonicare Health Center of Wallingford surrounded by the love and comfort of her family after a brief illness. She was the widow of George Bergin.
Bernice was born September 23, 1921 in Waterbury, CT, the daughter of the late Silvio and Azilda (Bernier) Cyr. Bernice was a lifelong Waterbury resident who attended local schools. She was a loving and dedicated homemaker and was known by all the neighborhood kids as "Mom." She enjoyed cooking and would constantly prepare meals not just for her family but for many of the neighborhood kids as well. She enjoyed Broadway shows and enjoyed going to NY and local theater productions especially at the Palace Theater and the Seven Angels theater to enjoy a show. Bernice was blessed to have many close friends throughout her life and would never forget to send them or family members birthday or greeting cards.
Left to cherish her memory and honor Bernice's love and legacy are her children, Carol Delage of Darby, MA, Raymond Bergin and his wife, Denise of Plymouth, CT; Steven Bergin of Waterbury, Brian Bergin of Waterbury, Robert Bergin of Waterbury, Gail Rich and her husband, Clint of Prospect, Janice Bergin of Cobalt, CT and Deborah Gesualdo of Middlebury. Bernice was blessed with 9 grandchildren; David, Stephanie, John, Chelsea, Tyler, Victor, Mary, Nancy, and Jesse as well as her great granddaughter, Tesslyn and her nieces; Shirley and Betty as well as many friends and other extended family members.
The Bergin family would like to thank and acknowledge the nurses and staff at the Masonic Home of Wallingford for all the love, comfort and support they provided to Bernice and her family during her time spent there.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Bergin will be held on Wednesday, January 29th 2020 at 10:30 a.m. from Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd Waterbury CT 06705 to Saint Leo the Great the Church 14 Bentwood Rd Waterbury to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in New Pine Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with Bernice's 's family on Wednesday morning from 9:30 a.m until leaving for church at 10:30 a.m. Memories last only if you share them, so you are encouraged to leave a condolence, words of comfort or a personal memory with the Bergin family on Bernice's tribute page at
