AT THE CASEY - O'DONNELL FAMILY FUNERAL HOME - WATERBURY CT. Mrs. Betty T. (Traver) Hamel, age 85, of Circular Ave Waterbury, died Thursday evening at Waterbury Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of Roland T. Hamel Sr.
Mrs. Hamel was born July 24, 1925 in Waterbury, the daughter of the late Jesse and Ruth (Wheeler) Traver. She attended local schools and was a graduate of Leavenworth High School, Class of 1943. Betty was a cadet nurse during World War II and worked for many years at the Credit Bureau of Waterbury. Betty also worked at the Republican - American newspaper. Betty was proud of her affiliation with the Department of Connecticut, Marine Corps League where she was honored to serve as a Past President. She was an avid reader and looked forward to her family vacations in Cape Cod. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and enjoyed as much time as she could find with her grandchildren.
Besides her devoted husband, Betty leaves two sons, Roland T. Hamel Jr. and his wife, Arlene and Russell Hamel, both of Waterbury and her 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She also leaves a brother, Jesse Traver of Polson Montana.
Funeral services Mrs. Hamel will be held on Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at 10:00 am from the Casey-O'Donnell Family Funeral Home 1581 East Main St Waterbury to SS Peter & Paul Church 67 Southmayd Rd. Waterbury for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Monday evening from 5 - 7 pm.
