WATERBURY - Brenda McCarthy Harvey of Wolcott, CT and Cape Coral FL passed away peacefully on September 30, 2015, at the Vitas Innovative Care Unit of St. Mary's Hospital surrounded by the love and comfort of her family. Brenda was the widow of Clinton Harvey.
Brenda was born on September 11,1932, in Waterbury the daughter of the late Jeremiah and Mary (Clifford) McCarthy. Brenda attended St. Mary's Grammar School and Waterbury Catholic High School in Waterbury and Anna Maria College in Paxton, MA. Brenda was a Social Worker at St Mary's Hospital then went on to become a Teacher in the Waterbury school system. She then worked for Standard Oil as a teacher abroad, teaching in Libya, Venezuela and Aruba. Her adventurous spirit was an inspiration to all who knew her! Brenda will be remembered for her tendency to break into song, volunteering at St. Andrews School and her love of her Irish heritage.
Survivors include her beloved sisters, Rosemary Luddy of Wolcott and Nancy Donahue of Southington and many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews and her many FL friends as well as her companions, Bentley and Kerry. She is predeceased by her sisters, Noreen McSherry and Eleanor Rourke and her brothers, Rev. Thomas E. McCarthy, Randall, Timothy, Clifford and James McCarthy.
Funeral services for Mrs. Harvey will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2015 when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Church of St. Ann 289 Arch Rd. in Avon CT at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Ann's Church Cemetery, Avon. Relatives and friends may visit with Brenda's family on Saturday morning at St. Ann's Church from 10:00 till 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Brenda's memory may be made to St. Mary's Grammar School, 43 Cole St. Waterbury CT 06706.
