Devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather

WATERBURY - Brendan Timothy Carmody, age 88, passed away peacefully at the Vitas Innovative Care Unit of Saint Mary's Hospital on Friday, September 27, 2013 surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Helen (Corcoran) Carmody.

Brendan was a Waterbury native, born April 13, 1925. the son of the late John G. Carmody and Margaret (Carmody) Carmody, He proudly served his country during WWII with the US Navy and participated in North Africa, D-Day, Cherbourg, and Pacific Theater, Campaigns including Iwo Jima and Okinawa tours. He retired from the Boston & Maine Railroad after 44 years of service with varying positions with multiple Railroad lines and enjoyed gardening, collecting war memorabilia, and most of all playing with his many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, The Saint Francis Xavier Holy Name Society, and the Oakville VFW Post 7330, and served as an usher at St. Francis Xavier Church.

Brendan's family would like to acknowledge and thank the VNA Healthcare and St. Mary's Hospital staff for the excellent care provided to Brendan during his illness.

Besides his beloved wife Helen, he is survived by his ten children: Timothy & wife Cindy, Thomas, Patrick (Cmdr. US Navy Retired) & wife Brenda, Mary D'Avino and Pete Paradis, Cathy Roberge, Kevin (US Army Veteran) & wife Marlene, Margo Jasiulevicius & husband Algis, Christine, John and Brenda & Stas Sienkiewicz, his 14 grandchildren Shawn Carmody, Lauren Grenier, Meghan Carmody, Graham Michael Carmody, Kirsten Carmody, Sarah D'Avino, Hannah D'Avino, Andre Roberge, Sharon Pratt, Pamela Carmody, Chrissy Jasiulevicius, Johnny Jasiulevicius, Kathy Lubitski & Amanda Miller & his eleven great grandchildren as well as his sister-in-law, Sr. Patricia Corcoran, with the Sisters of St. Joseph of Chambery. He was predeceased by his brothers John and Clinton and his granddaughter Rachel D'Avino, one of six educators lost at Sandy Hook Elementary in 2012.

Funeral Services will be Tuesday, October 1, 2013 9:00am from Eastside Memorial, A CASEY FAMILY FUNERAL HOME AND TRIBUTE CENTER, 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd to St. Francis Xavier, 625 Baldwin St, Waterbury to celebrate the liturgy of Christian Burial at 9:30am. Rites of committal with full military honors will follow in Calvary Cemetery Waterbury. Friends and relatives may visit with Brendan's family on Monday evening at the funeral home from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
