OAKVILLE - Caesar T. "Sid" Gomes age 85, of Oakville, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 10, 2017. He was the husband of the late Marie (Famiglietti) Gomes with whom he shared 55 years of wonderful marriage.
Mr. Gomes was born on November 4, 1931 in Pawtucket, RI, the son of the late Francisco and Maria (Andrade) Gomes. He was raised in Waterbury, graduated from Leavenworth High School. Caesar was a proud veteran of the US Army having served during the Korean War as a Technical Sgt and received Good Conduct and National Defense Service medals. He was employed as machinist for over 20 years at Timex in Middlebury and then worked at the Siemon Co. in Watertown until his retirement. Caesar loved outdoor sports especially fishing and hunting and was an avid golfer and bocce player. He was a longtime member and former president of the VFW Post #7330 Oakville and was a Board Member of the Watertown Federal Credit Union for several years. He was a parishioner of St. Mary Magdalen Church in Oakville. Caesar will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Mr. Gomes leaves his two daughters: Elaine Goddard and her husband, Thomas, of Bolton, MA and Nancy Malaspina and her husband, Edmund Jr, of Prospect, his five devoted grandchildren: Rebecca and Hannah Goddard of Bolton, MA and Bianca, Alexis and Dante Malaspina of Prospect and his brother, Francisco Gomes, Jr and his wife, Fay of Goshen CT. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
All services for Mr. Gomes will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at the O'Neill Funeral Home, 742 Main St., Oakville.
