Waterbury - Candida "Candy" Melendez age 80 of Waterbury passed away unexpectedly on Friday March 3rd at Saint Mary's Hospital. She was the wife of Francisco Melendez.
Candida was born October 10th 1936 in Corozal, Puerto Rico the daughter of the late Rafael and Carmen (Nieves) Del Moral. She moved to NYC area as a young girl and grew up in the Brooklyn and Bronx area before moving to Connecticut where she has spent many years working for Fleischer Finishing before becoming a home health care worker. She enjoyed singing, dancing, watching her Spanish novellas, sewing, crocheting, and working outside but was always happiest while spending time with her family especially her grandchildren. She was a parishioner of the First Assembly of God Church in Waterbury.
Besides her husband Francisco, Candida is survived by her sons Angel Cuevas and wife Danielle, and Richard Cuevas and is wife, Christina of CT, her daughters Delia an Kristie Melendez of Waterbury, her siblings Edwin and Genaro Del Moral, her sister Doris Del Moral and her grandchildren Sheena, Jalisa, and Rebecca Cuevas, Jacob Rodriguez, Isabella Cuevas, Christian, and Alexa and Gabriel Cuevas. She is predeceased by her son Carlos Cuevas and her brothers Rafael and Marcelino Del Moral and her sister Delia Del Moral
Funeral Services for Mrs. Melendez will be held on Tuesday, March 7th, 2017 at 11:00am at Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd. Waterbury, CT 06705. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery Waterbury. Relatives and friends may visit with Candida's family at the funeral home on Tuesday morning from 9:00am until the time of the service at 11:00am.
