BRISTOL, CT - Mr. Carl H. Carlson III age 65, of Bristol passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by the love and comfort of his family on Saturday May 23rd 2015 after a courageous battle with ALS. He was the loving husband of Diane (Schwab) Carlson.
Carl was born August 31st 1949 in Waterbury CT, the son of Carl H. Carlson Jr and the late Kathleen (Murphy) Carlson. He graduated from Saint Francis Xavier Grammar School and Wilby High School and also attended Mattatuck Community College where he studied business. Carl worked for several trucking companies in the greater Waterbury area as a trucking salesman, most recently at Transcon Trucking. Carl was a member of the Washington Hill Athletic Club, the Waterbury Elks, Lodge # 265 and the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Waterbury. He enjoyed golfing, taking trips to the casinos and traveling. During the 2014 City of Waterbury ALS Ice bucket challenge, Carl was featured by his cousin Mayor Neil O'Leary and had the honor of pouring the bucket of ice water over the Mayor, all of which was featured on NBC News.
Besides his wife Diane of 42 years and his father, Carl is survived by his sisters, Margaret Dowling and her husband, Kevin of Naugatuck and Marilyn Kain and her husband, George of Ridgefield CT, his brother, Matthew Carlson and his wife, Tammy of Marlborough CT, his brother in-law, Bill Schwab and his wife Ann of Pompano Beach FL, his stepbrother, Peter Fradette and his stepsister, Michele Moon and his stepmother, Rosanna Carlson. Carl also leaves many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews as well as several close friends and extended family members. Carl was predeceased by his brother, Steve Carlson.

Carl's family would like to extend their personal thanks and heartfelt appreciation to the Hospital for Special Care, the Masonic Care Partners; Home Health & Hospice Care Team, his nurses, Mary Hebb and his private duty nurse, Cynthia for all of the care and attention that they provided to Carl and his family during his illness.
Funeral services for Mr. Carlson will be held on Wednesday May 27th, 2015 at 11:00 when a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Francis Xavier Church 625 Baldwin St Waterbury. Those planning on attending are asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends may visit with Carl's family on Tuesday evening at the Eastside Memorial, A Casey Family Funeral Home & Tribute Center 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd Waterbury from 5:00 till 8:00 pm.
