Carmella Casey

WATERBURY - Mrs. Carmella (DeSantis) Casey, age 87, of Sidney St. Waterbury, beloved wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, and great grandmother, died peacefully on Saturday, July 6, 2013 at the Cheshire House in Waterbury. She was the widow of William J. Casey Sr. Together, they lovingly raised their five children.

Carmella was born in Waterbury on July 7, 1925, daughter of the late Aniello and Louisa (Carpentier) DeSantis. As a young woman, she worked at various places including Scovill Manufacturing. She returned to work later in life and retired from Cly-Del Manufacturing. Carmella was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church her entire life. She was also a member of AARP and East End Senior Citizens. She loved spending time with her family and friends ... the more the merrier.

Carmella will be remembered most for the limitless love she gave to her children and friends and for her unfaltering faith. She is survived by her five children, MaryAnn Casey and her husband Keith, Lisa Calo and her husband Fran, Nancy Casey, Margaret Casey and William J. Casey Jr. She also leaves her grandchildren and great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces, nephews and cousins as well as her brother-in-law Lawrence Perosino, sister-in-law, Joan Casey and her best friend and care giver, Mary Lou Sullivan. Carmella was predeceased by all her siblings; Sabatino DeSantis, Anna Buonome, Pasquale DeSantis, Rose Orsini, Joseph DeSantis and Louise Perosino.

Carmella's family wishes to extend a their thanks and personal gratitude to the staff at the Cheshire House for the outstanding and compassionate care they provided to their Mom throughout her illness. Special thanks to Donna Miller and Linda Shea.

Funeral services for Mrs. Casey will be held on Thursday, July 11, 2013 at 10:30 am from Eastside Memorial, A CASEY FAMILY FUNERAL HOME AND TRIBUTE CENTER, 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd. Waterbury to Our Lady of Lourdes Church, South Main St Waterbury to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am. Rites of committal will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with Carmella's family at the funeral home on Thursday morning from 9:00 to 10:30am. Memorial donations in Carmella's memory may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital 262 Danny Thomas Pl. Memphis TN 38105. www.stjude.org .
