WATERBURY – Carmelo Collazo age 63, of Waterbury, passed away peacefully on Thursday November 24th 2022 at Waterbury Hospital surrounded by the love and comfort of his family after an extended illness. He was the loving husband of Maria Rojas.
Carmelo was born July 16th 1959 in Orocovis, Puerto Rico, the son of the late Miguel and Octavia (Burgos) Collazo. Carmelo moved to Connecticut in the early 80’s and was the long-time owner and operator of La Orocovena Market on Baldwin St in Waterbury. Carmelo enjoyed listening to music and was always happiest while spending time with his family. He will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know and love him.
Left to honor his legacy and cherish his memory besides his wife, Maria of 37 years, are his two loving sons; Juan and Orlando Collazo. He also leaves his 10 siblings; Ada Collazo Burgos, Angel R Collazo Burgos, Enrique Collazo Burgos, Angel M. Collazo Burgos, Maria M. Collazo Burgos, Jacinta Collazo Burgos, Maritza Collazo Burgos, Noelia Collazo Burgos, Hirem Collazo Burgos, and Geraldo Collazo Burgos. Carmelo and Maria were blessed with 3 grandchildren; Jayden, Jaslene and Layla and he also leaves his best friends Tony and Ivy Arroyo and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brothers; Miguel A Collazo Burgos and Luis Collazo Burgos.
Funeral services for Mr. Collazo will be held at a day and time to be announced in Orocovis, Puerto Rico.
