Mrs. Carmen Karas

November 1, 1965 — January 21, 2025

Loving Wife, Mother, Sister, and friend

SOMERS, CT - It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Carmen Lydia Karas share the news of her peaceful passing at home surrounded by the love and comfort of her family on Tuesday, January 21st, 2025, at the age of 59, after a short but courageous battle with cancer. Carmen was the devoted wife of Steven Karas.

Carmen was born November 1st, 1965, in New York City, NY, the daughter of the late Eliezer and Francisca (Morales) Gonzalez. Carmen spent her formative years in Meriden, where she created many treasured memories that she carried in her heart throughout her life. She later moved to Waterbury, where she dedicated herself to raising her family and building a rewarding career as a customer service representative for The Hartford Insurance Company. Her kindness and commitment to helping others resonated in her work and everyday interactions, leaving a positive impact on those around her.

An active member of the Naugatuck Elks Club for seven years, Carmen found joy in her connections and the friendships which she cherished. Above all, she treasured spending time with her family, creating lasting memories through laughter, love, and shared meals filled with her remarkable cooking. During her free time, Carmen often found solace in the pages of her favorite books. Carmen and Steven recently moved to Somers, CT, where they found contentment and joy in being closer to their children. Home was always a welcoming place. With each visit her children always knew their arrival and departure required hugs and kisses. Carmen Lydia Karas will remain in our hearts forever, a guiding light of love, resilience, and joy. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her and felt her warmth. Our family thanks you Mom, for every prayer you uttered for us, for the many sacrifices you made for us, for thousands of hugs you shared with us and the unending love you instilled in all of us.

Left to honor her legacy and cherish her memory are her husband of 33 years, Steven Karas, whose love, support, and devotion were a constant source of strength to her; their children, Taylor Karas of Waterbury, Travis Karas and his fiancé , Sandra Hovsepian of Lowell, MA, and Yesenia Karas of Hartford. She also leaves her siblings; Jose (Valerie) Gonzalez of Meriden, Ana (Robert) Boissonneault of Windsor, and Miriam Felton of Wallingford. In addition to other extended family members and many friends
