Loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Sister

WATERBURY- It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that the family of Carmena Delores (Stephenson) Magnano, age 73, of Waterbury share the news of her peaceful passing on Thursday, December 5th , 2024, at the Vitas Inpatient Unit of Saint Mary’s Hospital. She was the widow of Joseph Magnano Sr.

Carmena was born in Manchester, Jamaica on January 24th, 1951, the daughter of the late Fredrick A.Stephenson and Winnifred Davy. She was born and raised in Jamaica and in 1969, seeking new opportunities and adventures, Carmena immigrated to the United States, where she would go on to weave her own legacy. Carmena found true love when she met Joseph Magnano Sr., and they joined their lives in marriage in January 1975. Together, they built a warm and loving family, welcoming four beautiful children: the late Patricia Swift, Joseph Jr. Magnano, Johnathan Magnano, and Emerald Magnano. Carmena poured her heart into her family, preparing many delicious meals and nurturing their spirits while embracing the joy of togetherness. Carmena worked as an Expeditor Manager and Supervisor for UTC Aerospace, formerly known as Timex and Bendix in Cheshire, for 47 years. Besides work, Carmena found solace in sewing; yet nothing brought her more joy than the moments spent with her beloved extended family, creating memories that will be forever treasured.

Besides her children, left to cherish and honor Carmena’s memories are; her siblings; Delrose Stephenson of Brooklyn, NY, Lorma Kawberu and her husband Jacob of London, England, Winston Stephenson and his wife Pearlette of Waterbury, Fredrick Stephenson and his wife Delories of Waterbury, Fred Stephenson and his wife Shawn of Winnsboro, SC, Arline Stephenson of Windsor and John Stephenson and his wife Marlene of New Britain. She also leaves her devoted grandchildren; Robyn, Ro, Rhianna and Patrick of Texas, her Aunt Imojene Williams of Florida and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many more extended family members. Besides her loving husband, Joseph and her parents, she was predeceased by daughter; Patricia Swift, her brother; Derrick Stephenson, her brother-in-law; Dennis Byars and her nephew; John W. Stephenson Jr.

In gratitude, the family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the caring team at VITAS Inpatient at Saint Mary’s Hospital. Special recognition is extended to the nursing staff; Gilean, Leah, Amber, and CNA Hazel Moore for their compassionate support and unwavering dedication during Carmena’s illness.
