Mrs. Carol O. Russo

July 17, 1942 — January 24, 2024

WATERBURY - Carol O. Russo, 81, of Waterbury, widow of Pasquale A. Russo, passed away peacefully in the VITAS Inpatient Unit of St. Mary’s Hospital on Wednesday January 24, 2024.

Carol was born on July 17, 1942, in Waterbury, one of six children of the late James and Olive (Morency) Downy. Carol was a lifelong Waterbury resident and for many years was a parishioner of Saints Peter & Paul Church. Carol was Exceptional in almost every way but she excelled the most at being a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. There was nothing more important in life than her family. She was sweet, and kind-hearted woman but also had a feisty side and could be the life of the party. Carol loved to cook and was known for her fried chicken, potato salad, and knew how to make a good sauce. She was a stellar example of grace and class. She will be sadly missed by all those who were blessed to know and love her.

Left to cherish Carol’s memory are her four children: Vivian Izzo and her husband Robert of Prospect, Patricia Pitts and her husband Gordon of Waterbury, Kimberly Donnarumma of Waterbury, and Carolyn St. Pierre of Naugatuck, her six grandchildren: Christopher Viega, Shaina St. Pierre, Danny Pitts, Adam Pitts, Holly Izzo, and Amy Izzo; her eight grandchildren: Alex Pitts, Lily Pitts, Isabella Pitts, Giovanna Pitts, Skyler Pitts, Dominic Pitts, Charlotte St. Pierre, and Peyton St. Pierre. She also leaves her sister, Maureen Barringer of Waterbury, her significant longtime companion, Carmen Capozzi as well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Besides her husband and parents, Carol was predeceased by her four siblings; June Branko, Nancy Ouellette, Morton Downey and Patty Giusto.

Funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of her family. To honor Carol’s memory and in lieu of flowers, donations to the VITAS In-Patient Unit at St. Mary’s Hospital https://www.vitascommunityconnection.org would be gratefully appreciated by her family.
