Longtime St. Marys Hospital Nurse/Director
PROSPECT - Carolyn (Brown) Gumpper age, 83 of Prospect, passed away peacefully on Saturday November 19, 2022 at the Apple Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Watertown with her family by her side. She was the widow of Frank Gumpper, to whom she was married to for 52 wonderful years.
Carolyn was born April 4, 1939, in Waterbury the daughter of the late Harold and Bertha (Simon) Brown. She was educated in local schools, graduated from Waterbury Catholic High School, Class of 1957 and then graduated from St Mary’s School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. She worked at St Mary’s for her entire career, in many different roles, first in the Operating Room for many years and she then became an instructor for St. Mary’s School of Nursing. At the time of her retirement, she was the Director of Central Supply. Carolyn and her husband owned Gump’s Cleaners in Prospect for 3 years after retirement. Carolyn was an active parishioner at St Anthony Church in Prospect where she taught CCD and enjoyed serving her parish using her nursing experiences taking blood pressures after mass. She enjoyed coaching girls’ softball with her husband and looked forward to their annual family vacations to Eagle Lake Maine, where her family roots came from. Carolyn loved nature, the outdoors, and all animals, especially dogs. But what was most important to Carolyn was her family, especially her adoring grandchildren. They were the light of her life, and she enjoyed every minute she could spend with them, even those who lived out of state. She will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know and love her.
Left to honor her legacy and treasure her memory are her children; Karl Gumpper of Boston MA, Kristine Santovasi and her husband Anthony of Prospect, Joseph Gumpper and his wife, Lisa Gumpper of Iowa City, Iowa, Frank J. Gumpper and his partner, Justine Meadows of Fostoria, Ohio, John Gumpper of Prospect and life partner, Kim Fiore of Hamden. Carolyn and Frank were blessed with eight wonderful grandchildren: Thomas, Shelby, Tymothy, Spencer, Nicholas, Samantha, Frank, and Sarah, two sisters: Norma Savage of Waterbury and Muriel Hohl of Kennewick, Washington. She also leaves behind her cherished granddogs.
Funeral services for Mrs. Gumpper will be held on Friday, November 25, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at St Anthony’s Church, Prospect when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury. Relatives and friends may visit with the Gumpper family on Friday morning from 9:00 am until 10:30 at Casey’s Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd Waterbury CT 06705.
