Old Saybrook, CT - Catherine (McLaughlin) McKenna, age 71, of Atlantic Ave. Old Saybrook, formerly of Waterbury, died peacefully at home on Wednesday March 26, 2008, with her family at her side. Catherine was the wife of John McKenna.
Mrs. McKenna was born August 24, 1936 in Waterbury the daughter of the late William and Margaret (Leary) McLaughlin. Catherine was born and raised in Waterbury, graduated from Waterbury Catholic High School and earned a BA degree "cum laude" from the University of Connecticut. The family moved to Old Saybrook in 1984. Catherine was a former member of the SS Peter and Paul Church in Waterbury and most recently was a member of St. John's Church in Old Saybrook. Most of all, Catherine was a loving, and dedicated, wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed reading and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Besides her loving husband of 53 years, Catherine leaves three sons, Michael of Sharon CT, Thomas of Old Saybrook and Christopher of Milford CT, four daughters, Elizabeth McCarthy of Waterbury, Kathleen Finnemore of Wolcott, Sheila McKenna of Old Saybrook and Patricia Forte of Wolcott. She also leaves three brothers, Kevin McLaughlin of Bethlehem, Timothy McLaughlin of Norwich and James McLaughlin of Mexico as well as two sisters, Patricia Devino of Middlebury and Sheila Post of Dunwoody Georgia and several nieces and nephews. Catherine leaves 17 grandchildren whom she especially loved and was very proud of. She was pre-deceased by a daughter Maureen McKenna and a brother William McLaughlin.
Funeral services for Mrs. McKenna will be held on Saturday evening March 29, 2008 at the Casey ?" O'Donnell Family Funeral Home 1581 East Main St Waterbury CT and family and friends may visit from 6-8 pm. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
