THE CASEY FAMILY IS HONORED TO BE ASSISTING AND CARING FOR THE FAMILY OF CHARLES CORETTO
WATERBURY - Charles J. Coretto Sr., age 85 of Waterbury, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 27th 2018 at his home after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Joyce M. (Warner) Coretto, to whom he was married for 52 years until her passing just two months ago.
Charlie was born May 2, 1932 in Waterbury, CT, the son of the late Saverio and Elizabeth (Cullen) Coretto. He was a graduate of Leavenworth High School and spent many years working as a Systems Analyst/ Data Processor for the State of Connecticut, Department of Education. Charles was a proud veteran of the US Army where he served as a Sergeant 1st class during the Korean War Conflict. He was part of the first guided missile brigade in White Sands providing ground support with infantry company E102 43rd Division and also served with the 12th US Army Security Agency field station in Shitoshi, Japan. Charles was a devout Catholic and was a seminarian with the Maryknoll Brothers and had a profound devotion to Saint Padre Pio and faithfully attended daily Mass. Charles was a CCD teacher and taught religious education for 20 years at Saints Peter and Paul Church and served as a Eucharistic Minister at both Saints Peter and Paul and Sacred Heart Church. He also provided presentations on the Shroud of Turin. Charlie was always happiest when he was surrounded by the love of his family and friends, especially while spending summers in R.I. He also enjoyed studying and researching family genealogy. Charlie will be sadly missed by all those who were blessed to have known and loved him.
Among his survivors are his children; Charles Coretto Jr. of Waterbury, Margaret Smith and her husband, Richard of Prospect and Mary "Kate" Hathaway of Oakville, and his sister, Elizabeth Garofalo of Southbury. In addition, he also leaves his 3 adored grandchildren, Amanda Deschenes, Joshua Hathaway and Brian Hathaway. He was predeceased by his six brothers; Francis, Samuel, Joseph, James, Albert and Patrick Coretto and his sister, Anne Coretto Zaccagnini as well as his son in-law, Gary Hathaway.
Funeral services for Mr. Coretto will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2018 when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church 309 S. Main St Waterbury. Those planning to attend are kindly asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will follow in New Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury. with full military honors Relatives and friends may visit with Charles's family on Friday evening from 4:00 - 7:00 pm at Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home, 1987 East Main St. @ Southmayd Rd.
