Devoted Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother
WATERBURY – Charlotte Finlay, age 92, of Waterbury. With sadness we share that the angels came for Charlotte and guided her into the arms of those she so loved and missed on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, after a long illness. She was the widow of Robert A. Finlay.
Charlotte was born September 2, 1930, in Waterbury, CT, the daughter of the late Charles and Adelaide (St Hilaire) Berube. She was a graduate of Waterbury Catholic High and was a woman of deep faith. Raised in the catholic faith but was an active member of Mill Plain Union Church, where her husband was a parishioner. She was active in the Mill Plain Women’s Guild and always looked forward to assisting in the church ‘s Christmas Bazaar, contributing her crochet and knitted wares, as well as supporting the quilting group. As her family grew older, she became a bridal consultant where her gift of making people feel special shined. Family was Charlotte’s life and legacy, her home was open to everyone, and everyone called her “Mom.” She took great pride and dedication to ensure her home was filled with love and her children were her priority. Her home was open to all, and it would not be unusual to be sharing a piece of her homemade apple pie with a cup of tea. She was active in the Girl Scouts, her children’s PTA, and received a Teacher Aid certificate. Her love of children and people was her gift, and she always had a memorable hug that would always make your day better. As her family continued to grow, her daily interaction with her grandchildren is what she lived for and brought her great joy. Charlotte always said if she could put a smile on someone’s face, she had done her job for the day. Charlotte made the world a better place for all of us, and we are all blessed and thankful to have had her in our lives.
We would like to acknowledge the staff of Trinity Terrace Care Health for the exceptional care, love and devotion shown to Charlotte and her family.
Left to honor her legacy and cherish her memory are her children, Bonita King and her husband, Robert of Marshfield MA, Robert Finlay and his wife, Judith of Thomaston, Robin Donahue and her husband, James of Oakville, Laurie Hellmann and her husband, Carl of Oakville, William Finlay and his wife, Yvette of Waterbury, and Andrew Finlay and his wife, Jennifer of Naugatuck.
