Mrs. Cheryl Samaha

December 15, 1954 — December 4, 2023

Devoted wife and mother

PROSPECT - Cheryl Scopino Samaha passed away on December 4, 2023, surrounded by her loving family after a valiant fight against angiosarcoma this past year. She was 68 years old.

Cheryl grew up in Waterbury, Connecticut and it’s there that she met her soulmate and husband of 37 years, Douglas Samaha. It was love at first sight. The two built a home and family together in Prospect, Connecticut. She was the best mother to daughters Lauren and Brooke, who she loved fiercely. They’ll forever remember the themed parties she threw for them as children, Cheryl’s over-the-top holiday decorating, incredible cooking and infectious smile that instantly lit up any room she entered. She was inseparable from her sisters Patti and Linda. When the three of them were together there was always uncontrollable laughter, “necessary” shopping trips and a bag of candy close by. She also adored her niece, Jillian, and was elated to celebrate her wedding last year.

Cheryl recently retired from her career in Human Resources, and was proud to have helped so many in the tristate area become employees or advance their careers, starting at Colonial Bank, then Bank of America, Center Bank, First Union, Wachovia and Wells Fargo. Cheryl was beautiful both inside and out with a heart of pure gold. Her energy was truly contagious. May her spirit live on through everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.

In addition to her husband, Douglas, Cheryl leaves behind her daughters Lauren Samaha of Long Island City, NY and Brooke Samaha of Prospect, CT; sister Patti Scopino and husband, Sean Harmon of Bristol, CT; sister Linda Richmond of Watertown, CT; niece Jillian Tolster and husband, Ryan of Watertown, CT; sister-in-law Patricia Dixon of Waterbury, CT; and many cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her father and mother, John and Toni Scopino of Waterbury, CT; parents-in-law Douglas and Violet Samaha of Waterbury, CT; and brother-in-law Mark Richmond of Watertown, CT.

Her family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Michael Grant of Yale, Dr. William Tap of Memorial Sloan Kettering and the wonderful staff at Smilow Cancer Hospital of Waterbury for the care and treatment they provided to Cheryl this past year.
