Chester R. Graves
Meriden ?" Chester R. Graves, age 86, formerly of Waterbury, died unexpectedly May 7th 2008 at Mid-State Medical Center in Meriden. He was the widower of Cecile (Langdeau) Graves.
Mr. Graves was born June 1st 1921 in Cheshire CT the son of the late Raymond and Clara (Ryerson) Graves. He grew up in the Waterbury area where he attended local schools and spent most of his life. During his youth he volunteered with the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) where he helped to build camps in the area. He served in the Army during WWII and worked as a salesman for Reymond Baking Company of Waterbury and Kraft foods before his retirement in 1976. Mr. Graves enjoyed camping, playing cards, horseshoes, and gardening as well as having and attending tag sales.
Mr. Graves is survived by his three daughters, Cynthia Denne and her husband Thomas of Cheshire, Cathleen Meder and her husband Eric of Haddam, and Candace LoGiudice and her husband Mark of Prospect, a sister Evelyn Burke of New Mexico, 6 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a close friend and companion Edna Greene.
Funeral services for Mr. Graves will be held on Saturday May 10th at 1:00 p.m. at the Casey-O'Donnell Family Funeral Home 1581 E. Main Street Waterbury. A Memorial Gathering will be held from 12:00 noon until the time of the services. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
