Respected Leader of Watertown Police Department for 22 years


WATERTOWN - It is with great sadness that the family of Jack Carroll announce his sudden, unexpected passing on Wednesday, March 23, 2022.

John F. "Jack" Carroll Jr. was born on June 16, 1941 to the late Patricia (Scionti) and John F. Carroll Sr. in Waterbury, CT. Jack grew up in Waterbury, the oldest of ten siblings, graduated from Leavenworth High School and attended Hart School of Music. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and served on the Waterbury Fire Department, along with his father, worked as an EMT for Campion Ambulance and ultimately joined the Watertown Police Department in 1969. He began his prolific career there as a patrol officer, after which he was promoted to sergeant, deputy chief and ultimately, Chief of Police, serving 22 years as chief until his retirement 2007. Jack was a graduate of the FBI National Academy. Jack was an accomplished pianist and had the unique ability to hear any song and play it back with great skill. He also held a pilot's license and owned his own plane. He was an extremely generous person and used all of his skills and qualities in serving others, even flying charitable missions for those needing his help. Jack lived life to the fullest blessed by his faith, family and friends.

Left to honor his memory and cherish his legacy are his wife, Donna M. Carroll, to whom he was married to for 51 years, his son, Lt. John F. Carroll III and his wife, Donna of Brookfield, CT, his son, Christopher Carroll of Waterbury, CT, one granddaughter, Katherine Carroll. He also leaves his siblings; MaryFrances Alonzo, Catherine (Robert) Osiecki, Patricia (Kon) Petrochuk, Robert Carroll, Peter Carroll, and Susan (Dennis) Grasso. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and many close friends. He was predeceased by his brothers; James, Thomas, and William.

A Memorial Service for Chief Carroll will be held on Friday April 1st 2022 at Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Services 1987 East Main Street @ Southmayd Rd Waterbury, with a Service of Remembrance at 6:00 p.m. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends may visit with the Carroll family on Friday from 4:00 till the service at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
