Claire O'Connor

October 21, 1931 — February 5, 2016

WATERBURY - Mrs. Claire (Blessing) O'Connor age 84 of Waterbury, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love and comfort of her family at Countryside Manor Nursing Home in Bristol after an extended illness. She was the widow of Thomas O'Connor.

Claire was born in County Leitrim, Ireland on October 20, 1931. She was educated in Ireland and immigrated to the United States at 18 years of age. Claire was a dietician at Waterbury Hospital for many years before her retirement. Claire was an active member of the LAOH Division 66, she enjoyed watching Irish step dancing, traveling and her many bus trips with her friends. She was renowned for her Irish soda bread and scones. Her most pleasurable time was spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. Claire volunteered for the St. Francis Xavier School Lunch Program and she was a parishioner of St. Francis Xavier Church and was a member of their Ladies Guild.

Claire is survived by her children; Michael O'Connor and his wife, Marla of Watertown, Dennis O'Connor and his fiancé, Belinda of Waterbury, Terrence O'Connor and his wife, Alisa of Bradenton FL, Anne Eustace and her husband, Joseph of Summerville GA, Mary Otnisky and her husband, Joseph of Burlington CT, Deborah O'Connor of Watertown, Noeleen O'Connor and Marie McGuire and Roseanne O'Connor all of Waterbury. She leaves to cherish her memory her grandchildren; Shannon, Thomas, Patrick, Emily, Kelly, Shana, Thomas, Angela, Sara and Ciara, her great grandchildren, Carter, Lily and Anniston. She also leaves two brothers, Terrence and his wife, Margaret Blessing of Dublin Ireland and Al Blessing of New Haven and two sisters, Angela Grey and her husband, Tony and Patsy McTague and her husband, Michael also of Dublin as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends. She was predeceased by her grandson, Sean Eustace. Claire's family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the entire staff on the Abbey Lane Wing of Countryside Manor for the loving care and support they shared with Claire and her family during her illness.

Funeral services for Mrs. O'Connor will be held on Friday February 12, 2016 when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Church, 625 Baldwin St Waterbury at 9:30 a.m. Those planning to attend are kindly asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury. Relatives and friends may visit with Claire's family on Thursday, February 11, 2016 from 4:00 till 7:00 p.m.at Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd, Waterbury.
