WATERBURY.-Clinton F. Pelkey, age 92 of Waterbury, passed away peacefully at his home on the morning of December 16th. He was pre-deceased by his wife Margaret (Stanco) Pelkey with whom he was married to for 69 years prior to her passing in September 2019.
Mr. Pelkey was born December 3, 1928 in East Millinocket, Maine, the son of the late Clinton R. and Gertrude Pelkey. After moving to Waterbury, CT from Maine in his early teens, Clinton attended and graduated from Crosby High School. Clinton is an Army Veteran of World War II and the Korean War. While in Korea, with the 7th Division, he was awarded the Bronze Star with "V" device for Valor, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal with four Bronze Service Stars and the United Nations Service Medal. Clinton worked as a Manufacturing Engineer for Carpin Manufacturing in Waterbury, CT, retiring in 1995. He was a communicant of St. Francis Xavier Church and a member of the Holy Name Society. Clinton was a life member of the VFW Post 8075 in Prospect, CT. He enjoyed bowling on Friday nights in the Prospect bowling league, was an avid hunter, fisherman, cribbage player and loved his Boston Red Sox.
Left to remember, cherish and honor Clinton's love and legacy are his sons; Christopher Pelkey and his wife, Donna of Cheshire and Daniel Pelkey and his wife, Mary of Plantsville, his three grandchildren, Kristin Pelkey Bradley and her husband, Brack and their son, Pearce and daughter Birdie Margaret Rose of Jasper AL, Amy Pelkey of Los Angeles CA and Kyle Pelkey of Libertyville IL. He also leaves behind three brothers, Edward Pelkey and his wife Peggy of Prospect, CT, William Pelkey and his wife Kelly of Bristol, CT and Claude Pelkey and his wife Lori of Bristol CT, as well as a sister Cynthia Cipriano and her husband Richard of Prospect, CT, in addition to several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister; Lilla Magnavice of Prospect, Ct.
The family wishes to extend a very special thank you to Clinton's niece and nephew, Heidi and Gary Veillieux for their unending love and tireless support for their Uncle's care, to Ray Finelli for his assistance in helping care for Clinton over the last several months and to the staff at VITAS for their compassionate support and care.
Funeral services for Mr. Pelkey will be held on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Church 625 Baldwin St. Waterbury at 10:00 a.m. Those planning to attend should meet directly at the church and comply with all state and federal guidelines in effect for COVD #19. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery Waterbury, CT. with full Military honors. Casey's Eastside Memorial funeral home has been honored to assist the Pelkey family during this difficult time.
