WATERBURY - Concetta "Connie" (Mollica) Tiganella age 94 of Waterbury, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 11, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. She was the devoted wife of the late Salvatore Tiganella for 36 wonderful years.
Connie was born in Siracusa, Prividencia di Floridia, Sicily on June 10, 1922, the daughter of the late Sabastiano and Concetta (Scolara) Mollica. She moved from Sicily to the United States at the age of six and attended Merriman Grammar School and graduated from Wilby High School in 1941. She married Salvatore Tiganella while he was in the Navy and she worked in factories while raising her children while her husband was in the Navy. She also worked for Dr. Stanislaw of Prospect for 9 years and at Southbury Training School for 10 years until she retired. She enjoyed exercising, dancing and singing. She taught yoga at the Naugatuck YMCA and square dancing for the Cheshire Cats square dancing group. She sang with the Top Hatters and served as their President for 7 years and she also danced with The Dancer of Southington. Connie performed for the Hospital Stars and Follies, Silas Bronson Library concerts, Seven Angels Theater and Bright Lights for Seniors in Waterbury. She was a longtime communicant of St Patrick's Church and served as President of the Ladies Guild for many years and also snag in their choir. Later in life she volunteered for the Retired Seniors, singing and performing with Mario Rossi at convalescent homes throughout CT. Connie will be sadly missed by her loving family and by all who knew and loved her.
Connie is survived by her five children; John Tiganella and his wife, Elaine of Wilmington NC and their two sons, John Jr. and Scott, Diane Rimkus and her husband, John of Stuart FL and their daughter, Laura Lee King of Philadelphia and her husband Chris, Joyce Gavell and her husband, Jim of Bantam, David Tiganella and his son, David and daughter, Stephanie of Waterbury, Jimmy Tiganella and his companion, Nancy Forino, his son, James and his wife, Heather and great grandson, James Gilbert Tiganella of Prospect and daughter, Jennifer of Cos Cob CT. She also leaves a sister, Angela "Ginger" Quinn of Waterbury and Connie's longtime friend, "Ziggy" Baldowski of Prospect. Connie was predeceased by her two sisters, Carmella "Millie" Bendziunas and Anna Bozzuto and two brothers, Salvatore and Joseph Mollica.
The Tiganella family would like to thank and acknowledge the nurses, aides and staff of Autumn Lake of Bucks Hill, Waterbury for the outstanding care and love that they shared with Connie during her stay and a special thank you to the kitchen staff where "soup was always on for Mom".
Funeral services for Mrs. Tiganella will be held on Monday, January 16, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. from Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd Waterbury to St. Patrick's Church, 50 Charles St Waterbury to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Rites of Committal will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with Connie's family on Monday, January 16, 2017 at the funeral home from 8:30 till 9:30 a.m. To honor her memory and in lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Patrick's Church 50 Charles St Waterbury CT 06708.
