WATERBURY - Daniel W. Cashman, age 90 of Waterbury passed away peacefully at the Beacon Brook Health Care Center in Naugatuck after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of the late Lucy M. (Grosso) Cashman.

Mr. Cashman was born on January 10, 1931 in Waterbury the son of the late Richard F. and Alice (Bissell) Cashman He was educated in local schools and advanced his education acquiring his degree in Criminal Justice and then his Masters in Public Administration from the University of New Haven. He joined the Waterbury Police Department in the early 1950's and enjoyed a long and storied career. He along with five other officers were trapped and rescued in the 1955 flood and he was also instrumental in being one of the first officers on the scene of the 1965 tornado. Dan served for many years as the City's Traffic Engineer and retired with the rank of Lieutenant after 42 years of service. In 1967 he started an Insurance and Real Estate Company under his own name that he ran for several decades. He was a longtime member of the Police Association of CT, an active member of SS Peter & Paul Church. He lived most of his life on Oldham Ave in Waterbury where he was affectionately known as the "Mayor of Oldham".

Dan leaves his stepson, Bill Crane of ME and several nieces and nephews spread throughout the United State as well as many friends and former clients in the greater Waterbury area.

Funeral services for Mr. Cashman will be held on Monday, February 1,, 2021 when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Mary Mother of the Church Parish, SS Peter and Paul Church at11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Old St. Joseph's Cemetery, Waterbury.
