WATERBURY - Mr. Daniel "Mike" C. Collins, age 80, of Glenbrook Ave. Waterbury, passed away peacefully on Thursday November 21st 2013 at Saint Mary's Hospital surrounded by his loving family after an extended illness. He was the husband of Linda (Roberts) Collins.
Mike was born January 16th 1933 in Waterbury, CT the son of the late Daniel Charles and Doris (Tetrault) Collins. He attended local schools and proudly served his country with the US Navy during the Korean War Conflict. He spent many years working with CL&P as a meter reader until his retirement in 1990. He was a devoted New York Yankees fan and was an all around sports enthusiast. He enjoyed bowling, softball, and darts and while serving with the Navy he enjoyed boxing. Mike was known for his joking personality, he enjoyed playing pranks on his friends and family and was always ready with a good joke. He was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Monsignor Slocum Division 1, where he was a member of the set-back league and he was a former member of the Oakville VFW Post 7330 and more recently a member of the Waterbury VFW Post 7990 on Bank Street.
Besides his wife Linda of 32 years, Daniel is survived by his sons, Daniel Collins, Michael Collins and his wife Tina, and Stephen Collins, all of Waterbury, Kevin Collins and his wife Kristin of Southington, his daughter, Carolyn Collins-Smith and her husband Michael of Waterbury, his grandchildren Kayleigh, Kyle, Stephen, Michael, Julia and Lauren Collins, his great grandson, Leo Collins, and his uncle Robert Tetrault in addition to many other extended family members. He is pre-deceased by his grandson Dennis Collins and his brother Robert Collins.
Relatives and friends may visit with Daniel's family on Monday, November 25th from 5:00 ~ 8:00 p.m. at Eastside Memorial, "A CASEY FAMILY FUNERAL HOME AND TRIBUTE CENTER", 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd. Burial services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
