David P. Parlato

October 4, 1937 — May 8, 2017

WATERBURY - Mr. David Paul Parlato Sr., age 79, of Madison Street, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 8 after a brief illness. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 38 years, Eleanor (Furlong) Parlato in 2006 and his cherished son, David Paul Parlato Jr. in 2011 and a brother Ralph J. Parlato, Jr.

Born on the Lower East Side of Manhattan on October 4, 1937 to the late Ralph J. Parlato Sr. and Lillian (Vigliarolo) Parlato, Dave and his family moved to Waterbury in 1945, seeking the security of life in Connecticut following the Second World War. Dave was a proud graduate of Leavenworth High School, Class of 1956, where he was elected Class President and Class Orator. He completed his apprenticeship in tool and die making at Waterbury Farrell Foundry and worked as a master tool and die maker until his retirement. He also spent many years working at the family store, Ralph's Market, where Dave's grinders and cooking at the grill became legendary. Dave proudly served our country as a member of the United States Army, stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky, and subsequently as member of the Army Reserves. Dave approached life with youthful optimism and a vibrant spirit found in few others. He loved to tell a great story, with perhaps a few embellishments along the way, and he knew the absolute importance of a few hearty laughs, the Yanks on television, and a full table as the solution to most any situation.

To carry on in his absence, he leaves a daughter, Janet Parlato and her husband, Richard Peronace of Cheshire; two adored granddaughters, Leah and Lauren Peronace; two brothers, Nelson Parlato and his wife, Mary Ellen of Bethlehem and Daniel Parlato of Waterbury; and many nieces and nephews whose company he especially enjoyed.
