Mr. David Spadola

August 10, 1954 — November 22, 2022

Teacher, Father, Coach and Friend

WOODBURY-Mr. David John Spadola, affectionately known to many as “Porky”, age 68, of Woodbury, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at Waterbury Hospital.

Dave was born in Waterbury on August 10, 1954, to the late Domenic and Ruth (Reichenbach) Spadola, the youngest of four children. Dave grew up in the Bunker Hill area of Waterbury and made countless friends during his school years that culminated with the first graduating class of Holy Cross High School in 1972. Dave would go on to study at Southern Connecticut State University where he would receive his degree in Teaching and years later, a master’s degree of Education from Sacred Heart University. For most of his career, Dave taught for the City of Waterbury and held a multitude of positions. From his time as Bi-Lingual Special Education teacher, to Vice-Principal of Crosby High School, there was a special place in Dave’s heart for every student and co-worker he met along the way. Dave will be remembered by many for his infectious smile and love of life. He loved watching the New York Giants and Yankees. His favorite time of the year was vacationing in Cape Cod with his family and friends. Most of all, Dave loved and adored his family who shared that same affection for him. While Dave traveled to many places throughout his life and lived with his family in Oakville for many years, the greater Waterbury area is where he called home.

Left to cherish his memory and honor his legacy are his former wife Patty Spadola, of Pittsburgh, PA, his son, Daniel Spadola and his wife Lisa Merolle of Middlebury, CT, two step-sons, David (SuAnne) Loeb of Pittsburgh, PA, and Justin (Cynthia) Loeb of Keller, TX. His beloved grandchildren who lovingly knew him as “Grandpa Dave”, two sisters, Barbara (Bill) Carr of Brewster, MA, and Eleanor Spadola, of Fort Myers, FL, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. Besides his parents, Dave was predeceased by his brother, Donald Spadola, of New Jersey.

The Spadola family would like to extend their deep appreciation and acknowledge all those who cared for him at Premier Care in Woodbury, CT, and the wonderful doctors and nurses at Waterbury Hospital for their care.
