AT THE O'NEILL FUNERAL HOME - Delsie Lawrence LeVasseur Jr. age 70 of 281 Davis Street, Oakville, passed away March 14 2010 at his home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the husband of Nancie (Ebreo) LeVasseur.
Delsie was born December 28, 1939 in Millinocket Maine, a son of the Late Delsie Sr. and Grace (Lynch) LeVasseur. He grew up in Oakville and attended local Grammar schools, graduating from Watertown High School in the Class of 1959. He earned his F.C.C. license while serving in the Marine Corps from 1959-63 during the Cuban Missile Crisis. In the early 70's Delsie and his three sons became members of the Waterbury YMCA Indian Guide Program. They marched in many of Watertown's Memorial Day parades and participated in the 1976 Bi-Centennial parade with his Indian group. Delsie coached basketball for the Watertown Recreation Dept. youth group for many years. He was also a member of the Umpires Assoc. for 20 years and a member of the Naugatuck Elks Lodge #967 B.P.O.E. for the past 15 yrs. He enjoyed dancing, traveling, playing cribbage and attending classic car shows. He was a collector of John Wayne memorabilia and an avid sports fan, especially the UConn women Huskies. He worked as a Machinist Tool Maker at several companies before retiring from O.G.I. of Prospect in 2005. Delsie always had a smile for everyone and no matter where he traveled, he made friends with someone. He was a parishioner of St. Mary Magdalen Church.
Besides his wife of 45 years, he leaves his three sons and their families; Jeffrey LeVasseur and his wife Daisy and daughter Victoria LeVasseur of Meriden, Delsie III of Waterbury and his daughter Cheyann LeVasseur, a step-grandson Camdon Eldredge and their mother Mindy LeVasseur of Wareham, Ma., MSgt. Derek J. LeVasseur, U.S.M.C. of Alexandria Va., three sisters, Joyce Belcher of Port St. Lucie Fl., Ruth Bolduc and her husband Ken of Ocala Fl., Lee Downey and her husband James of Chesapeake VA., several nieces and nephews and many cousins.
Funeral Saturday March 20 at 10 a.m. from the O'Neill Funeral Home, 742 Main Street to Saint Mary Magdalen Church for Mass at 11. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Watertown. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. Nancie would like to especially thank Yale New Haven Hospital Medical Oncology staff, Harold Lever Cancer Center and the VNA of Watertown for all their help and support.
