WATERBURY - Denis Charpentier age 85 of Waterbury, passed away peacefully on November 21, 2016 at Vitas Innovative Care of Saint Mary's Hospital surrounded by the love and comfort of his family after an extended illness which he battled head on with faith, hope and a tenacious "one day at a time" human spirit.
Denis was born on May 31, 1931 in Waterbury, CT. He was the son of the late Albert and Anna (Lambert) Charpentier. He attended Assumption Prep School and received a BA degree from Assumption College. He then proudly served his country with the US Army during the Korean War Conflict. He worked as a teacher for the Watertown School System while furthering his education and attaining a 6th year Degree in Administration. He was employed as head of the Foreign Language Department at Watertown HS for many years.
Denis enjoyed walking, golfing, reading and spending winters at Rose Bay Travel Park in Port Orange, FL. He was an avid sports fan enjoying all major sports, especially UConn, St. Louis Cardinals, Red Sox, NY Giants and Notre Dame. He was a communicant at St Peter & Paul Church.
Denis is survived by Cecile Charpentier of Waterbury, the mother of their children. Mark Charpentier, of Waterbury, Paul Charpentier and his wife, Holly of Kingsburg, CA, Diane Turek and her husband, Andy of Southington, and Evelyn Harmon and her husband, Jim of Franklin, MA. Ten grandchildren: Danielle Turek, Jason Turek, Michael (Colleen) Harmon, Andrew (Hayley) Harmon, Jeremy Harmon, Nicole Charpentier, Natalie Charpentier, Mallory Charpentier, Connor Charpentier, Maryn Charpentier and 1 great granddaughter Yara Harmon. Special acknowledgement to his dear friend and companion Arline Papa. He was predeceased by his beloved sister, Theresa Killian.
Funeral services for Mr. Charpentier will be held on Saturday, November 26, 2016 when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30am at Saints Peter and Paul Church 67 Southmayd Rd Waterbury. Those planning to attend are kindly asked to meet directly at the church. Burial with full Military Honors will follow at Mt Olivet Cemetery, Watertown. Relatives and friends may visit with Denis' family on Friday, November 25, 2016 from 4:00 - 7:00 pm at Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home 1987 East Main St Waterbury, CT 06705.
