OAKVILLE - Our loving mother, Denise Gignac, passed away on Monday, September 11, 2023 after a long and full life. She was a very loving wife, devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, aunt and friend. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family.
Denise was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years Gérard, her three sisters and two brothers. She is survived by her daughter Diane (Gary) Elias, Guy Gignac (Pam Southworth) and Doris Gignac with whom she made her home. She also leaves behind five grandchildren whom she adored; Karen (David) Crawford, Kathleen (Bryan) Ferrucci, Jess (Kathleen) Elias, Nicholas (Jennifer) Waters and Dennis Waters along with 8 great-grandchildren whom she doted on at every opportunity. Denise would get down on the floor, up until her passing at 92 to play with the great grandchildren. She also leaves a brother Gérard (Diane) Lafontaine of Canada along with numerous nieces and nephews both here and in Canada.
She was born on May 3, 1931 in Québec, Canada to Marie-Anne (Brousseau) and Lionel Lafontaine. Denise came to the United States with her husband Gérard in 1962 to provide a better life for their family which they did. She was a seamstress at Leila Dress for many years always enjoying sewing and later knitting or crocheting. Her passion was her family. Denise always loved being surrounded by them and cooking for them. She leaves an immeasurable void in many lives.
Funeral services for Mrs. Gignac will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2023, when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at St Mary Magdalen Church 14 Buckingham St Oakville CT. Burial will be private and held at the convenience of her family. Relatives and friends may visit with the Gignac family on Saturday morning from 9:00 a.m. until the procession leaves for church at 9:30 a.m. at the Casey-O’Neill Funeral Home 742 Main Street, Oakville, to honor Denise’s memory and in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association
